Bangladesh-origin scientist got creativity Awards
Bangladeshi origin scientist Dr. Shafiqul Islam won the 7th Prince Sultan Abdulaziz International Award for Water (PSIPW) along with his partner Dr. Rita Colwell.
Shafiqul is currently working at Tufts University in USA. His partner Rita works at University of Maryland at College Park. Both got Creative Award for developing and testing a model that uses chlorophyll information from the satellite data to predict the chlera outbreaks at least three to six months advance. This news came by the official website of PSIPW.
Dr. Shafiqul Islam has applied Colwell’s findings to relate chlorophyll levels and cholera outbreaks in the Bay of Bengal. He developed a satellite-based model using NASA satellite to predict potential Cholera outbreaks at least three to six months advance. Now they are working on a testing model, on ground based observations.
The 7th Award of Prince Sultan Abdulaziz International Award for Water (PSIPW) was announced on October 5. And the prize giving ceremony held on USA headquarters in New York on 2 November.
